  1. The pregnancy is located within the uterus.

  3. The gestational age of the pregnancy (how many weeks pregnant you are).

Our ultrasound scans are provided free of charge and are completely confidential. To learn more about the importance of a limited OB ultrasound, read our blog.

Note: Eligibility for an ultrasound will be determined by the nurse during your first appointment and would be offered as a second appointment. We do not use ultrasound to determine sex.

Why Do I Need An Ultrasound After Taking A Positive Test?

After a positive pregnancy test, an ultrasound is very important before making a pregnancy decision because it will tell you if your pregnancy is viable - meaning there is a heartbeat - and that the pregnancy is located in the uterus. This is particularly important if you are considering an abortion because if the pregnancy is not viable or not in the uterus, abortion is not the procedure that will be recommended. So if you are considering taking the abortion pill (RU486) or having a surgical abortion, it is very important to ensure a viable pregnancy. An ultrasound will also determine the gestation of the pregnancy -- meaning how far along is the pregnancy.
